Insuring Ohio's roads, one policy at a time.
At the Ohio Automobile Insurance Plan (OAIP), we understand that navigating the complex world of automobile insurance can be overwhelming, especially for those who face unique challenges in obtaining coverage. As a residual market, we provide a lifeline for licensed drivers who, due to various factors such as their driving history or first-time driver status, are unable to secure automobile insurance through Ohio's voluntary market. As the "last resort" for these individuals, we strive to offer a dependable and affordable solution.
Our Services
Our services are designed to cater to the specific needs of licensed drivers who are unable to obtain auto insurance coverage elsewhere. We offer a comprehensive range of services, including bodily injury, property damage, medical payments, and physical damage coverage. Our plan is available to residents and non-residents of the state, as well as members of the United States military forces stationed in Ohio.
Eligibility
To be eligible for our plan, applicants must meet certain criteria. As a prerequisite to consideration for assignment under the Plan, applicants must certify that they have attempted to obtain automobile insurance in the state within the last 60 days and have been unable to obtain coverage at rates equal or less than the Plan. Applicants must also report in the prescribed application form all information of a material nature and not willfully make incorrect or misleading statements.
Applicant Not Eligible for Plan
In certain circumstances, an applicant may not be entitled to insurance under the Plan. These circumstances include, but are not limited to, if the applicant or anyone who usually drives the automobile does not have a valid driver's license, fails to obtain such license as required by law, or fails to meet all obligations to pay to any insurance company any automobile insurance premiums due.
Frequently Asked Questions
We understand that you may have questions and concerns about our services. Below are some frequently asked questions that you may find helpful:
Q: I need to file a claim with your company because one of your policyholders damaged my vehicle.
A: The Ohio Automobile Insurance Plan (OAIP) is not an insurance company. We don't sell insurance, so we can't pay claims. Many times individuals will "make up" an insurance company name, like Ohio Automobile Insurance. We recommend contacting your local insurance company or other relevant authorities to report the incident.
Q: I'm having trouble paying my premiums. What can I do?
A: We can offer payment plans or other alternatives to help you meet your premium obligations. Please contact our office to discuss your options.
Q: Can I get insurance for my antique automobile or classic car?
A: Unfortunately, our plan does not offer coverage for antique or classic vehicles. If you have questions about insuring your vehicle, please consult with a licensed insurance professional.
