Providing Basic Property Insurance to Those Who Need It Most

The Washington FAIR Plan Association was established in 1968 with the mission to provide basic property insurance on dwellings and commercial buildings to applicants who have difficulty obtaining a policy in the standard insurance market. As a Joint Reinsurance Association, the Washington FAIR Plan operates under the rules and regulations of Chapter 284-19 of the Washington Administrative Code. The Washington FAIR Plan is subject to the supervision of the Office of the Insurance Commissioner of the State of Washington.

Our Services

The Washington FAIR Plan offers a range of services designed to provide property owners in Washington State with affordable insurance options. Our services include:

  • Property insurance policy coverage for residential and commercial properties, including structures and contents
  • Optional coverages, such as extended coverage for windstorm, hail, explosion, riot or civil commotion, damage to insured building from vehicles, smoke, volcanic action, and vandalism and malicious mischief
  • Optional coverage for vandalism and malicious mischief
  • Coverage for both structures and contents of dwelling and commercial properties
  • Maximum coverage of $1,500,000 at any one location
  • Replacement cost coverage is not available

Eligibility

To be eligible for coverage, the property must be located within the State of Washington and meet reasonable underwriting standards. Underwriting standards include consideration of numerous factors, including the physical condition of the property, its present use or housekeeping, and specific characteristics of ownership, condition, occupancy or maintenance.

How to Apply

To apply for insurance through the Washington FAIR Plan, applicants are required to work with an insurance producer who is licensed in Washington State. The "Application for Inspection and Insurance" can be filled out and printed from our website, but must be signed by the applicant(s) and the insurance producer. Any insurance producer can assist you, regardless of which standard companies they represent.
